Ed note: We are now in real-time, more or less.
I have owed this review for a while. I've been dragging my heels because there's not really a lot to say. I enjoyed the movie while I was sitting in the theater, but it failed to leave much of an impression afterward.
There were some pretty good action sequences. There were some contrived-to-the-point-of-silliness action sequences. There were a lot of guns, and vehicles, and vehicles with guns, and vehicles that didn't have guns of their own, but were used as gun platforms anyway.
The plot was workable - honestly, no one goes to a G.I. Joe move expecting an intriguing, thought-provoking storyline. The acting was sufficient. The writers made a stab at addressing sexism in the military, and that kinda worked, though it wasn't subtle. Again, no one goes to a G.I. Joe movie expecting subtlety, so that's fine.
As is usual (sadly) with movies these days, most of the good bits were in the trailer.
So: serviceable action movie, entertaining, but nothing special.
1. Jack the Giant Slayer
2. Beautiful Creatures
3. Oz the Great and Powerful
4. G.I. Joe: Retaliation
5. Hansel and Gretel, Witch Hunters
